Research Lines

The Graduate Program in Animal Health (PPGSA) carries out its activities in the field of Animal Health, which constitutes the Program’s Area of Concentration. The research line Health and Sustainability aims to develop studies that contribute to the promotion of animal health, addressing infectious and parasitic agents, as well as prevention, surveillance, and disease control measures across different domestic and wild species.

The PPGSA will initiate a field of study focused on investigating wildlife ecology and the impacts of anthropogenic systems on the environment, with the aim of promoting environmental conservation and sustainability actions, thereby contributing to the mitigation of health risks at the interface among animals, humans, and the environment.

The Program operates in the field of animal production and sustainability, investigating alternatives for regenerative livestock production, with a focus on developing systems that employ production animals to restore degraded pasturelands and promote sustainable grazing management in the Caatinga biome. These practices also help to increase the sequestration of greenhouse gases.

The PPGSA conducts studies in the areas of morphophysiology, medical and surgical clinical sciences, analgesia, welfare, and the epidemiology of diseases affecting canines, felines, and wildlife species.
